Expertise
With over 20 years of experience in renewable energy, the professionals at the platform have developed a wide range of expertise in photovoltaics and microgrid management.
Research
- A major focus of our research is the assessment of photovoltaic energy performance, as well as the management of batteries and sensors under Quebec’s specific climate conditions — cold and humid.
- With an extensive dataset, maintenance history, and operational records dating back to 2018, our applied research expands into strategic directions aligned with Quebec’s energy development priorities.
- Predictability and modeling of electricity generation are key components to facilitate the integration of renewable energies across the region. Energy management within microgrids is also a major area of focus.
The 3IT.Energies platform is first and foremost an academic entity affiliated with the Université de Sherbrooke. Supporting research is therefore its core mission.
Technical Capabilities and Expertise
- Semiconductor materials and devices (cells and transistors), microfabrication
- Component packaging (interconnections, protection, and performance)
- Benchmarking of photovoltaic technologies (cells, modules, systems) in controlled and real environments
- Energy modeling of microgrids with renewable resource integration and digital twins
- Analysis of production data specific to Quebec environments (urban, industrial, etc.)
- Estimation of electrical yield
- Prediction of electrical production
- Management and forecasting of energy consumption and peak demand using storage solutions (available power at any given time based on multiple factors)
- Forecasting of generation and consumption using machine learning algorithms
- Cybersecurity of microgrids
- Microclimate control through agrivoltaic solutions

Data access
Data from the Université de Sherbrooke’s photovoltaic park are partially accessible to the public via an interactive dashboard.
This tool allows real-time visualization of energy production, environmental conditions, and equipment operation.
The 3IT.Energies platform plays a key role in the development and integration of renewable energies by offering a space for innovation and experimentation to various industry and academic partners, while also exploring new fields such as agrivoltaics to promote sustainable and efficient land use.
