3IT.Energies Platform - Université de Sherbrooke

3IT.Energies is the outdoor energy experimentation platform of the Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation (3IT) at the Université de Sherbrooke.

Since 2018, the platform has hosted 1 MW of photovoltaic capacity along with a wide range of technologies and infrastructures designed to better understand the integration of renewable energy sources in Québec’s North American climate.

Built on a user-pay operational model, 3IT.Energies provides access to its infrastructure, equipment, and specialized technical services — both to internal users and external partners (academic institutions, organizations, and private companies).

In 2026, 3IT.Energies will host a microgrid featuring 4 MWh of energy storage, interconnected with nearby buildings and capable of testing multiple configurations — including energy storage strategies, islanded operation, black-start capability, and bidirectional power exchange with the main grid.
